Aromatic liqueur perfect for the winter season, where we can infuse it with our favorite spices (such as cinnamon or star anise or cloves, etc.).
Here are the ingredients we will need:
10 large organic oranges
500g water
500g sugar
650g ouzo or vodka
1 cinnamon stick
After thoroughly washing the oranges, we use a peeler to carefully remove only the orange part of the peel, avoiding the white pith as it can make the liqueur bitter. (We can keep the white pith aside for making candied orange peel.)
Place the orange peels in a jar along with the ouzo or vodka and the cinnamon stick, and let them infuse for about 10 days.
After 10 days, in a saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Bring it to a boil until the sugar dissolves completely. Allow it to cool.
Once cooled, strain the ouzo or vodka with the orange peels using a cheesecloth or a double-layered mesh cloth.
Combine the infused liquid with the sugar syrup and mix well.
Transfer the liqueur into a bottle.
Enjoy it neat or with crushed ice, either on its own or as a delightful addition after a satisfying meal!
