Rice Pilaf

White long-grain rice, quite popular for all uses. Fragrant, delicious, delicate and pairs perfectly with both simple and more elaborate dishes.

Ingredients:

1 cup basmati rice

2 cups water

1 tbsp butter (or olive oil or margarine)

1 lemon peel

1 bay leaf

Salt and pepper

Directions

  1. Rinse the rice very well in a fine mesh strainer with cold water until the water runs clear (starch).
  2. Drain well and put it in a pot. Add the cold water, butter, lemon peel, salt, freshly ground pepper, and bay leaf.
  3. Stir and bring to a boil. Once it boils, lower the heat and cover the pot with its lid. Let it simmer for 10-15 minutes (until almost all the liquid has been absorbed).
  4. Turn off the heat and remove the pot from the burner. Leave the lid on and cover it with a clean towel for 10 more minutes.
  5. Fluff the rice with a fork.
  6. Serve!
